Bridge Designs
Quebec Bridge, Canada

Sydney Harbour Bridge, Australia

Rock Creek Bridge, Oklahoma

The first step of the project was to find three real world examples of bridges. Each had to be one of three categories. These categories includes a truss, cantilever, and a cable bridge

After weeks of researching and brainstorming ideas, the Professor selected the Quebec bridge with the Umbrella mechanism. This design portrays the hinges of an umbrella lifting a roadbed and placing it back into place. This project was required to be 3d modeled in AutoCAD. After weeks of work, we were able to provide the following
Movement Analogies

A table demonstrating three multiple hinge mechanisms and how they would function if they were used in the real world. Ultimately, the umbrella mechanism was chosen by the Professor.
How the Mechanism Works

Step 1
In the development stage of the project, an idea that was proposed was having the mechanism lift the bed of the road and place it back after. With the multiple hinge nature of an umbrella, the numerous arms would allow for the system to move the bed with ease.

Narrative

Richard Meier, a widely known architect, designed the Smith House in 1965. It stood as a marvel in architecture at the time and even served as the inspiration for modern-day architecture. Recently the Smith family, a family of popular artists, has commissioned an architect by the name of Xander Osario to make additions to their home. While they were commissioning their project they liked some of the details of the original, so much so that they wanted to have certain elements preserved within the final product. The Smith family values keeping the work of the original artist intact to see what styles they incorporated among their work. As art enthusiasts, they are always looking for new styles to experiment on when creating their next work. Leading to perseverance being a top priority in the finished design. Having this in mind Xander was overwhelmed with making a design that adheres to the Smith’s family desire for perseverance with originality.
